COVID-19 vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Saturday said the vaccine negotiating team is seeking to increase the Philippines’ monthly vaccine supply deliveries to 25 to 30 million doses.

“We were able to administer 3.5 million doses per week and this already surpassed our expectation of just three million doses in a week,” Galvez said in a statement.

“Kaya, kapag dumating na ‘yung ibang bakuna and we are able to receive 25 to 30 million doses, we are confident that we can reach 750,000 to even one million jabs per day,” he added.

According to Galvez, the country has received more than 8.2 million doses so far this month from various sources such as the COVAX facility, the US, other countries, and those procured by the government, private sectors, and LGUs.

Galvez also said the country may meet its target of 250,000 jabs daily in the following days.

The Philippines has fully vaccinated over 12 million people as of August 12.

“Our goal of having a better Christmas is still attainable,” Galvez said.

“Maraming areas na mabibilis magbakuna and with the continuous deliveries of our vaccine supplies, kayang-kaya natin ma-achieve yung minimithi natin sa NCR and other areas na magkaroon ng better Christmas sa December,” he added.

A total of 1,727,231 cases have also been recorded in the country, of which 1,598,314 have recovered and 30,070 have died. — DVM, GMA News
