More than 70,000 cops fully-vaccinated vs. COVID-19 —Eleazar

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said over 70,000 of the 220,000-strong police force are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

In a press statement, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said a total of 79,082 police personnel or 35.66% are already fully-vaccinated while 92,914 or 41.89% are just awaiting the second dose to complete the inoculation.

He said only 49,786 personnel or 22.45% have yet to receive anti-COVID-19 shots.

Meanwhile, the PNP recorded a total of 106 new cases of COVID-19 among its personnel, bringing the total number to 32,464.

A total of 30,402 personnel have recovered from the infection and were subsequently restored to full-duty status to perform regular police duties.

Eleazar also disclosed the death of a 50-year-old police officer assigned in Region 1 due to COVID-19.

"The deceased was tested positive on July 28, 2021, and was admitted to a nearby hospital, however, after 17 days of battling against the infectious disease, the said police officer succumbed and was recorded as the 92nd fatality," he said. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
