41% of eligible population in NCR now fully vaccinated vs. COVID-19 — Dizon

At least 41% of the eligible population in Metro Manila are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus as of August 18, National Task Force Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon said Thursday.

A total of 3.2 million vaccine doses have been administered so far in the National Capital Region this month, or 178,000 jabs per day on average, Dizon said at a Palace news conference.

Dizon then expressed confidence that the target inoculation rate of 50% would be achieved by August 31.

Since March 1, 2021, the country has administered 29,127,240 shots, of which 16,250,043 were first doses, according to the Department of Health. The number of fully vaccinated Filipinos stood at 12.87 million as of August 18.

Dizon, meanwhile, said the country administered an average of 60,000 COVID-19 tests per day for the period August 11 to 17, with tests reaching a high of 67,000 in one day.

The government’s testing czar acknowledged this was not enough as he bared plans to talk to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) regarding the reimbursement of expenses by accredited testing laboratories.

“We will communicate with PhilHealth in the coming days to facilitate the reimbursement so that these laboratories will be able to purchase supplies and conduct tests more quickly,” Dizon said in Filipino. — RSJ, GMA News
