OCTA: Spread of COVID-19 cases in Cebu City slowing down

The spread of COVID-19 infections in Cebu City has slowed down as its reproduction number is at 1.29, the OCTA Research Group said on Thursday.

In its COVID-19 update for Cebu City, OCTA said they also expect the reproduction number to go down below 1 by the first week of September.

"This would mean that new cases will possibly be on a downward trend by then," the report indicated.

Fresh cases in Cebu City had a growth rate of 9% from 275 in the past two weeks compared to 300 during the period of August 12 to 18.

Average daily attack rate in Cebu City was at 29.17, which is "very high" while intensive care units occupancy rate was at 88%.

Following Cebu City is Lapu-Lapu City with ADAR of 29.89% with fresh cases increased by 9% from 128 to 136.

The Cebu government placed 11 areas under MECQ with heightened restrictions due to the spike of infections. —NB, GMA News
