Sotto's NPC not yet sold on Lacson as presidential bet

The Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) said it has yet to decide on its presidential bet for Eleksyon 2022.

According to Sandra Aguinaldo's report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, NPC spokesperson Mark Enverga said the party is still not sure whether they will pick Senator Panfilo Lacson as their presidential candidate.

Lacson earlier confirmed

that he and NPC chairman and Senate President Vicente Sotto III would run for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2022 polls.

"Our commitment will only be up to our vice presidential candidate. The presidency will be a different matter for us... At this point, si Senator Lacson with all due respect to him, hindi pa kami final sa presidente," Enverga said.

He said the NPC will wait for the filing of the certificates of candidacy before deciding on their final presidential bet.

Enverga said they are also open to discuss alliances with other parties, including Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte's Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

"We are open, of course, to talk and have alliances to the probability with Hugpong," he said.

Meanwhile, Sotto said they are planning to invite Lacson for a discussion on the matter soon.

"Last week of September or first week of October, we are going to invite Senator Lacson to a general meeting ng NPC. Kuwentu-kuwentuhan, tingnan natin kung ano mangyayari rin," Sotto said.

Further, Lacson said NPC's decision is only fair as he is not a member of the party.

"Tama lang 'yon at saka that's fair kasi hindi naman ako member ng party," he said.
