Over 7.2 million enrolled so far for School Year 2021-2022 —DepEd

More than 7.2 million students have enrolled so far for the coming School Year 2021-2022 as of Monday, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

Based on its latest data, 2,570,377 students have enrolled in public schools and 118,997 in private schools, and at least 3,064 in state universities and colleges as well as in local universities and colleges.

Around 4,557,327 students have signed up during the early registration for the coming school year, the DepEd said.

The region with the most enrollees is Calabarzon with 1,153,088; followed by the National Capital Region with 688,668; and Central Luzon with 676,093.

The start of the school year is set on September 13.

Last school year, when the classes started on October 5, 2020, the total number of enrollees was recorded at 24.7 million.

The department said this was only 89% of the total enrollment during the School Year 2019-2020.

Also last school year, around 398,000 students from private schools transferred to public schools amid the pandemic, according to the DepEd. — BM, GMA News
