DOH: Philippines' COVID-19 ICU beds 73% occupied

The country's intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients are already 73% occupied, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed on Monday.

In Metro Manila, occupancy rate for ICU beds was also marked at high risk, with 72% of 1,400 total beds utilized.

Under high risk, the occupancy rate is more than 70% but less than 85%.

The Philippines on Monday logged an all-time 18,332 new COVID-19 cases.

Further, COVID-19 ward beds in the country is in the moderate category, with 67% of 14,300 total ward beds in use. Moderate means utilization percentage is from 60% to less than 70%.

But utilization rate of ward beds in Metro Manila was at high risk level with 71% of 4,100 total ward beds in the region in use.

The metropolis, center of the country's economy, is currently under a modified enhanced community quarantine until the end of August 2021. Prior to this, Metro Manila was under enhanced community quarantine from Aug. 6 to Aug. 20 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 transmission in communities. —NB, GMA News
