Comelec: Registered voters for Eleksyon 2022 now 61.06M

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday said the number of registered voters for the May 2022 polls have already surpassed 60 million.

“Registered voters for May 2022 elections hit 61.06 million,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said during the launch of voter registration at SM Supermalls.

Jimenez said the figures are as of July and are still expected to increase.

The voter registration period is until September 30, 2021. However, voter registration activities are suspended in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ.

While it rejected calls to extend the voter registration deadline to October 31, 2021, the Comelec has extended registration hours beginning August 23, Monday.

The Comelec issued an advisory modifying the new registration schedule from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

Previously, Comelec's voter registration schedule was from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, the poll body also opened voter registration on Saturday and during holidays, which will have a schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. —KBK, GMA News
