Philippines hits record-high 22,366 new COVID-19 cases


The Department of Health reported 22,366 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, bringing the country's total case count to 1,976,202.

This is the highest number of infections recorded after the 19,441 cases on August 28.

The new infections raised the number of active cases in the country to 148,594, of which 95.7% are mild, 1.7% are asymptomatic, 1.1% are severe, and 0.6% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries increased to 1,794,278 after 16,864 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll, meanwhile, rose to 33,330 with 222 new fatalities.

The DOH said 187 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 105 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on August 28, while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.—LDF, GMA News
