Duterte orders intensified anti-illegal recruitment efforts

President Rodrigo Duterte has asked the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to strengthen its efforts against illegal recruitment.

In his recorded public address aired Tuesday morning, Duterte instructed DOLE to have more manpower and police involvement in addressing the labor issue.

“So you fortify the anti-illegal task force,” he told Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

“Okay na 'yung iba. But I want kapag may mag-report, follow up agad ang police (When someone reports about illegal recruitment, I want the police to follow up immediately)," Duterte said.

He added he wants the creation of a unit or office in the Philippine National Police for anti-illegal recruitment efforts.

Duterte also suggested providing months of training and lectures about labor crime laws to the police to help eradicate illegal recruitment.

Expressing his frustration, the President said he wants to kill the perpetrators behind illegal recruitment and that he wants to take the job in DOLE to address the matter.

“Gusto kong patayin ‘tong mga ito sa ginagawa nila sa kapwa tao nila na mawalan na ng pera, mapunta pa ng ibang bayan, makulong doon kasi ilegal e...na hindi naman nila kasalanan,” he said.

(I want to kill these illegal recruiters. Because of them many people already lost money, brought to other places, imprisoned because they were illegally recruited...it's not even their fault.)

Duterte also lamented how illegal recruiters, who have money, managed to get away with the crime due to the “fractured” government.

“I must admit that it is fractured. If we cannot help one single fraud committed against a citizen, fractured ka na (then it is already fractured),” he said.—AOL/RSJ, GMA News
