Philippine gov't fails to meet daily target of administering 500k COVID-19 vaccine doses for last week of August

The Philippine government has failed to meet its target of administering 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine a day for August 23 to August 29 or the last week of August.

Based on the COVID-19 vaccine statistics presented by vaccine czar Carlito Galvez during President Rodrigo Duterte’s taped address on Tuesday, the total number of COVID-19 doses administered in the country reached 33,099,392 million, as of August 29.

It was just 2,710,232 doses more than 30,389,160 million doses administered as of August 22.

This means that an average of 387,176 vaccine doses were administered daily from August 23 to August 29, way behind the government's target of administering 500,000 doses daily by August as previously said by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

Galvez also said on Tuesday that there are at least 13.7 million Filipinos who are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The 13.7 million, however, is way below the target of vaccinating 76.3 million Filipinos by the end of the year to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19.
