No inmates in New Bilibid Prison vaccinated for COVID-19 so far — BuCor exec

Bureau of Corrections deputy director general Assistant Secretary Gabriel Chaclag on Tuesday said all persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison have yet to receive a dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Chaclag reported that 80% of the national penitentiary has already received a COVID-19 vaccine shot.

“Pero wala pang vaccinated na PDL (But no PDLs have been vaccinated yet),” he said.

Chaclag said they are preparing the vaccination program for PDL as the inmates are already next in line for the inoculation.

According to him, they are still looking for sources of vaccine doses such as the Muntinlupa City government and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Currently, Chaclag said the BuCor has 33 COVID-19 cases out of the 48,367 PDLs and 4,065 personnel.

At least six PDLs, who are suffering mild to moderate symptoms, are isolated in Site Harry inside the NBP, while 12 NBP personnel are isolated in Cite Leo.

On Monday, Chaclag said it was reported that two personnel have died due to the disease.

In the Correctional Institution for Women, meanwhile, Chaclag said 97% of 3,300 PDLs are already vaccinated under the program of Mandaluyong’s City Health Office.

Only 7% of CIW personnel has yet to be inoculated, he added.

On Monday, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said its inoculation program depends on the supply from the Department of Health and the support of local government units.

On Sunday, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) urged the government to equally give attention to the need of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) for COVID-19 vaccination and the welfare of jail personnel. — RSJ, GMA News
