NCR COVID-19 reproduction number down —OCTA

The reproduction number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has decreased to 1.43 as of August 31, 2021, according to OCTA Research on Wednesday.

The figure was lower than the 1.56 recorded as of August 24, 2021, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said in a tweet.

The same tweet said reproduction number was lower in Quezon City (1.27) and Manila (1.33).

Reproduction number refers to the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual.

The NCR, currently under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until September 7, still leads the provinces or regions with the highest number of reported COVID-19 as of end-August with 3,515, according to OCTA in a separate tweet.

The NCR is followed by Cavite (1,428), Bulacan (810), Laguna (698), and Cebu (591).

Under MECQ — which is the transition phase between the strictest measure, enhanced community quarantine, and the more relaxed general community quarantine — no dine-in services and religious gatherings are allowed. Individual outdoor exercises, meanwhile, are allowed. —KBK, GMA News
