Bong Go confirms offering himself as Sara Duterte's VP in Eleksyon 2022

Senator Bong Go on Thursday confirmed offering himself to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as her running mate should she decide to run for president in the 2022 elections.

Responding to media queries, Go said his offer was made after several politicians presented themselves as the Sara’s running mate.

“When I learned that there were some aspirants who wish to be Mayor Sara’s VP in case she runs for the presidency, I expressed my willingness to be considered in her list of choices, nagpalista lang din ako gaya ng iba [I just had myself listed like the others],” he said.

Go said his devotion to President Rodrigo Duterte is the same as his devotion to the President's children, which include Sara.

He said he wanted to help Sara in achieving her goals for the country, whether as her vice presidential candidate or her campaigner, citing his election experience and years of service with President Duterte.

However, the lawmaker said he will only run if Sara decides to gun for the presidency and if the President Duterte will not join the vice presidential race.

“Of course, my intent to run as Mayor Sara’s VP only holds if she decides to run for the presidency and if President Duterte does not run for the vice presidency,” Go said.

Go reiterated that he is not interested in vying for the country’s top elective post.

In a statement Wednesday night, Sara disclosed that Go and Senator Sherwin Gatchalian have “personally expressed their offer to run” as her vice president.

Gatchalian earlier said he would run for vice president in next year's elections only if Sara would pick him as her running mate.

President Duterte had earlier said he would run for vice president in 2022 but Malacanang said this is under the perception that Sara will not run for the presidency.

The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has endorsed the Go-Duterte tandem in 2022.

Go, Duterte's longtime aide and confidante, has declined the party's endorsement.
