PNP records 150 new COVID-19 cases bringing total to 35,703

At least 150 new COVID-19 cases have been reported among the personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) bringing the total to 35,703 as of Monday.

In an update, the PNP said 33,357 have already recovered from the disease, while 2,238 are still active cases.

The death toll among PNP personnel due to COVID-19 remained at 108.

According to the PNP, the 107th fatality was a 50-year-old policeman assigned in Region 1, who experienced mild COVID-19 symptoms on August 27. He underwent an RT-PCR test which turned positive.

On August 29, the cop, who received his first dose of vaccine on August 6, was rushed to a hospital when he experienced difficulty in breathing but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the 108th fatality was a 39-year-old policewoman assigned in Region 3, who was admitted in a hospital on August 31 due to COVID-19 symptoms.

She underwent a swab test which turned positive.

On September 2, she succumbed due to pneumonia and acute respiratory failure, according to the PNP.

The Department of Health reported 20,019 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the country's total tally to 2,080,984.

According to the DOH, the new cases brought the country's active cases to 157,438.

The total recovery count rose to 1,889,312 while the death toll climbed to 34,234. â€”Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
