Duterte at PDP-Laban convention: A lot of us here have two wives

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday crowed about having two wives, saying in jest that a lot of the men attending the PDP-Laban convention are like him.

He made the remarks as he accepted the nomination of the Cusi faction of the party to become its vice presidential candidate in 2022.

"Kailangan makilala ninyo ako, hindi ninyo ako kilala. Ako naniniwala sa Diyos , ako ay maybe a good father, ako ay may dalawang asawa at marami naman kami dito," he said during the national convention of the ruling party in Pampanga.

(You need to know me, You don't know me. I believe in God, I'm a good father. I have two wives and a lot of us here have that too.)

He was referring to his ex-wife Elizabeth Zimmerman and current partner Honeylet Avanceña.

At one point, he even compared wives to vehicles, adding that one always needs a spare.

"Mismo iyong sasakyan mo may reserba, yan sasakyan yan, tao pa kaya?" he said.

Despite the sexist remark, he gained applause from his audience.

"Iwanan ka ng asawa mo kasi di kayo magkaintindihan pagkatapos niyan, basta maghiwalay lang. Ngayon kung wala kang reserba, papaano yan?" he said in jest.

(If your wife leaves you because you both can't understand each other, you will separate. You have no spare? What will happen now?)

Duterte previously revealed that he can love four women, citing the fact that he can love 100 million Filipinos.
