ICU, ward beds nationwide remain at ‘high risk’ —DOH


The intensive care unit beds and ward beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide remain at high risk as the modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila nears its end, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed Friday.

Based on the latest bulletin, 75% of the 4,200 ICU beds in the country are in use while 73% of the 1,400 ICU beds in Metro Manila are being utilized.

Meanwhile, around 73% of the country’s 15,800 ward beds are occupied while 73% of the 4,400 ward beds in Metro Manila are in use.

Occupancy rate is considered high risk if it is more than 70% but less than 85%.

Meanwhile, data also showed that 57% of the total 3,300 mechanical ventilators in the country are being utilized while 63% of the 1,200 mechanical ventilators in Metro Manila are occupied.

 

Metro Manila will remain under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until September 15, 2021, or until the pilot general community quarantine with alert level system is implemented.

Earlier, Malacañang announced that the government will only implement two quarantine classifications during the pilot implementation of the alert level system for COVID-19 response in Metro Manila.

The country has reported 17,964 new cases.

This brings the total tally to 2,179,770, of which 1,969,401 have recovered and 34,899 have died.—LDF, GMA News
