Philippines’ ICU occupancy rate rises to 76% —DOH

The intensive care unit beds and ward beds for COVID-19 patients in the country are at high risk, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday.

Based on the latest bulletin, 76% of the 4,200 ICU beds in the country are in use while 77% of the 1,400 ICU beds in Metro Manila are being utilized.

Meanwhile, around 73% of the country’s 15,800 ward beds remain occupied while 73% of the 4,400 ward beds in Metro Manila are also in use.

Occupancy rate is considered high risk if it is more than 70% but less than 85%.

Health experts earlier urged the DOH to look into its reporting system to check why there is a "disconnect" between their data and the situation on the ground.

This was after the DOH admitted that there was a disconnect between its data and the situation last week.

Meanwhile, data also showed that 56% of the total 3,400 mechanical ventilators in the country are being utilized while 61% of the 1,200 mechanical ventilators in Metro Manila are occupied.

The Philippines earlier logged an all-time high of 26,303 new COVID-19 cases.

This brings the nationwide tally to 2,206,021, of which 1,985,337 have recovered and 34,978 have died. -MDM, GMA News
