18,056 new COVID-19 infections reported as active cases reach over 177K

The Philippines on Tuesday reported 18,056 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the nationwide tally to 2,266,066, as a total of 12 laboratories failed to submit data on time.

“The relatively low cases today is due to lower laboratory output last Sunday, September 12,” the Department of Health (DOH) said.

According to the DOH, this brought the country’s active cases to 177,670.

Of this, 85.8% are mild, 9.5% are asymptomatic, 1.4% are severe, and 0.6% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 2,052,867 after 20,542 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 222 new fatalities brought the death toll to 35,529.

A total of 61 duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 92 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the Health department said.

Based on reports on September 12, the Philippines was also able to test 50,425 individuals, of which 29.7% tested positive for the illness.

The DOH urged the public to follow minimum health standards, saying that it is expecting the number of cases to further rise in the coming days.

“Mahalaga rin na tayo ay mag-isolate at makipag-ugnayan sa BHERTs kung tayo ay may sintomas ng COVID-19,” it said.

“Ang maagang konsultasyon at pagpapatest ay makatutulong upang maputol ang hawaan sa mga bahay, komunidad, at sa mga lugar na pinagtatrabahuhan,” it added.
