No more checkpoints in NCR under Alert Level 4 —PNP

By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday said checkpoints will no longer be set up in the National Capital Region when it shifts to Alert Level 4 on Thursday.

Interviewed on Unang Balita, Eleazar said their deployment will focus on the police presence in areas under granular lockdowns.

“Wala na tayong checkpoint sa operation dahil narinig naman natin ng uniform naman itong Level 4 [We no longer have checkpoints because Alert Level 4 implementation will be uniform in NCR),” he said.

Eleazar pointed out that the enforcement of granular lockdowns is not new for the police as some 50 areas in Metro Manila are currently under this restrictive measure.

On Tuesday, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said NCR will be under Alert Level 4 starting Thursday amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Areas under Alert Level 4 — the second highest alert level in the new scheme — are those with infections that are high or increasing while total beds and ICU beds are at high utilization rate.

Those who are not allowed outside their residences under Alert Level 4 are:

  • those who are over 65 years of age
  • those with immunodeficiencies, comorbidities, or other health risks
  • pregnant women

These individuals will only be allowed to go out to access or obtain essential goods and services, or for work in permitted industries and offices.

Also under Alert Level 4, intrazonal and interzonal travel for persons not otherwise required to remain at their residences may be allowed subject to the reasonable regulations of the local government of destination. —KBK, GMA News
