Philippines receives additional 753,480 doses of Pfizer vaccine

The national government on Wednesday night received 753,480 additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines that it purchased from American firm Pfizer.

State media PTV reported that the plane carrying the va ccines arrived at Ninoy Aquino Terminal 3.

Of the  753,480 doses, 650,520 jabs will be transported to the Pharmaserv Express in Marikina City, 51,480 doses were distributed to Cebu and 51,480 doses will be delivered to Davao City.

According to government adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa, the vaccines will also be delivered to local government units that have the cold storage facilities to preserve them.

As of September 13, 56,794,130 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been delivered in the Philippines since February.

Also, a total of 17 million Filipinos have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the government is eyeing to vaccinate the general public in October, with the poor as its priority.

Vaccination of kids

On the vaccination of children, Herbosa said they will need to vaccinate 100% of the adult population in the country first before administering the jabs to children.

Herbosa also explained that immunization policies will still be up to the panel of experts from the Department of Health.

"Once DOH has the policy they'll recommend it to IATF for approval," he said at the sidelines of the arrival of Pfizer vaccines.—LDF, GMA News
