Sara ‘supportive’ of Duterte's VP run, but won't campaign in Eleksyon 2022

After saying that she would not support the Go-Duterte tandem, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Wednesday expressed her support for her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, who has announced plans to run for vice president.

“She is supportive of her father’s decision to run for vice president and because of this she is calling on her supporters to be equally supportive to her father,” Mayor Sara's spokesperson Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco said on Sandra Aguinaldo's report on "24 Oras."

“But the matter of physically campaigning all over the country for PDP is totally different. Her decision remains the same that she will not share her light nor will she involve herself in the national campaign of the PDP in 2022,” she added.

GMA News has reached out to Malacañang for comment.

Meanwhile, the tandem of Senator Panfilo Lacson and Senate President Vicente Sotto III was invited as guests in the National Unity Party’s (NUP) meeting.

“Yesterday, SP Tito and I were invited in their party’s regular meeting. He is on board to help our campaign in whatever capacity, not necessarily as the campaign manager,” Lacson said.

NUP chair Ronaldo Puno, however, said this does not necessarily mean that the party is already supporting Lacson.

“Separate matter. Just me and some NUP members,” Puno said.

Senator Manny Pacquaio also met with the Partido Reporma, which is led by Lacson as the party chairman. Though Lacson was not in the meeting, party president, Davao Representative Pantaleon Alvarez was present.

The party said the meeting sought to explore possibilities in the upcoming elections.
