Philippines logs 18,937 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 176K

The Philippines on Monday registered 18,937 additional COVID-19 cases, raising the total tally to 2,385,616.

The Department of Health (DOH) case bulletin also showed that the active cases decreased to 176,850 from 178,196 recorded on September 19.

Total COVID-19 deaths reached 36,934, with 146 more patients who lost their lives to the disease.

DOH data also indicated that 20,171 more people recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 2,171,832.

Positivity rate reached 26.3%, which is far off the international standard of less than 5%. The total COVID-19 tests conducted nationwide stood at 72,770.

Also, DOH modified the total case count after deleting 70 duplicated cases, including 51 recoveries.

DOH also said 53 cases were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths.

Five laboratories were not able to send their data to DOH's COVID-19 Document Repository System even as all laboratories were operational.

Based on data in the last 14 days, five labs that failed to report their data contribute 1.6% of samples tested and 1.7% of positive individuals.

Figures from the DOH also showed that 77% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are still utilized, while 57% of the mechanical ventilators were also in use.

In the National Capital Region,  79% of the ICU beds were in use, while 60% of the ventilators were utilized.—LDF, GMA News
