'BAWAL 'YAN'

Senator and Red Cross chairman? Duterte says Gordon 'cannot be both'

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday night told Senator Richard Gordon to give up his post in the Philippine Red Cross if he wants to continue serving as a senator.

At his second Talk to the People this week that was aired on Thursday, Duterte once again blasted Gordon, who is leading the Senate investigation on the alleged irregularities in the government procurement of medical supplies, for having a "dual personality."

"You are a dual personality which is banned or prohibited by the law," Duterte said, referring to Gordon's position as Philippine Red Cross chairman and senator at the same time.

The President noted that government lawyers and Cabinet officials cannot be officers of corporations and companies, "or even an owner of a business entity that deals with government."

"Bawal talaga iyan... I will insist that you give up one because you cannot be both," Duterte said.

Duterte also threatened to file charges against Gordon over allegedly misused funds while he was still the chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).

The President said Gordon has yet to return around P140 million that had been flagged by the Commission on Audit (COA).

Duterte urged Gordon to "kindly settle or I will personally see to it that a case would be filed against you." —KBK, GMA News
