Duterte claps back at Gordon for calling him 'cheap politician'

President Rodrigo Duterte slammed Senator Richard Gordon for calling him a “cheap politician” amid the chief executive’s continued defense of emergency purchases in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his second address to the nation this week, Duterte repeated his accusation that Gordon was using the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) as his “milking cow” while serving in government. Gordon is the chairperson of the premier humanitarian organization in the country.

“Sabihin mo ‘cheap.’ Well, ako naman sinasabi ko you are a person who milked [the] government and the Red Cross both, because you sign for the Red Cross, you sign for [the] government,” he said.

Duterte also said Gordon’s face was plastered on the ambulances of the PRC.

“Actually it's a cheap political gimmick,” the President said.
“And I'm wondering why ako na ngayon ang naging cheap politician na itong isang bright boy sa Olongapo, iyong mukha niya, iyong mga ambulansya niya, nandiyan 'yung mukha niya. Hindi naman siya pangit. Medyo tisoy nga.”

Gordon recently called out Duterte for defending individuals linked to the allegedly overpriced medical supplies bought by the government last year. The controversy is being looked into by the Senate blue ribbon committee chaired by Gordon.

The senator also described the President as a “bully” and dared him to do his “worst.”

“Bakit kita takutin? Totoo ba hinahamon mo ako ng suntukan? Susmaryosep. Hindi ka nga siguro makaikot ng one round. You are getting to be preposterous,” Duterte said on Wednesday night. —KBK, GMA News
