17,411 new COVID-19 cases reported; active tally at over 165K


The Philippines reported 17,411 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, raising the number of active cases in the country to 165,790.

The Department of Health said the new cases brought the country's total COVID-19 caseload to 2,434,753.

Of the 165,790 active cases, 92.1% are mild, 3.1% are asymptomatic, 1,5% are severe, and 0.7% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries, meanwhile, increased to 2,231,558 after 14,090 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll rose to 37,405 with 177 new fatalities.

 

 

The DOH said 77 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 88 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on September 21, while three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Further, data from the DOH also showed that 79% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 56% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 80% of the ICU beds are in use, while 62% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
