Philippines seeks to achieve 90% vaccination target before Eleksyon 2022

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. bared on Thursday that the government is aiming to achieve the herd immunity target of 90% before Eleksyon 2022.

Galvez earlier said the government is eyeing to raise the country's vaccination target, which could mean between 80% or 90% of the country’s 110 million population or 90 million people.

"Ang strategic program natin is because of Delta, we have upgraded our threshold to 90% and considering, we have factors of elections, we have to finish that before elections which is February (2022)," said Galvez at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 during the arrival of 728,910 Pfizer vaccine doses.

So far, the Philippines received 66.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from various manufacturers.

As of September 20, 2021, Philippines fully inoculated 18.5 million Filipinos, which is still far off the target. -- BAP, GMA News
