Isko Moreno willing to give Duterte Cabinet post if elected president

If ever he becomes the country's next president, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is willing to give President Rodrigo Duterte a Cabinet post.

"I can, I can give him [a Cabinet post]," Moreno, who announced his candidacy for president earlier this week, said in an ANC interview on Friday.

"I know the meaning of respect."

Moreno said he has always reached out to his political rivals like what he did when he won the 2019 mayoralty race in the country's capital.

"Why is that when you run, you have to be [allied with the] administration or opposition? Dilaw ka o pula ka [Yellow or Red] I really don't care, as long as you're an asset of the country, even though you didn't vote po me, I will hire you," Moreno said.

"I did that in Manila, I placed people of opposing sides in the same department, and look what it brought us: economic growth from P20 billion to P30 billion a year, investment at P123 billion in the first year, P147 billion the 2nd year," he added.

"We earned the people's trust back, and that provided jobs and opportunity."

President Duterte has declared that he will be running for vice president next year under the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

The party has also endorsed Senator Bong Go, Duterte's longtime aide, as its standard-bearer, but the senator said he is not interested in the presidency.

SALN

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Moreno said he is in favor of government officials showing their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) to the public.

"SALN is a public document, it's there," he said.

"Everyone down the line [should show it to the public]... 'yun ang sinabi ng batas," he added.

Responding to calls for Duterte to release his SALN, Malacañang said it is under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Ombudsman.

Ombudsman Samuel Martires has been firm that he would not yield to calls from the public to release the SALN of any public official, including the President. —with Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
