I won't interfere in ICC probe on Duterte drug war –Isko Moreno

By LLANESCA T. PANTI,GMA News

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, should he win the Presidency in the 2022 polls, said he would not interfere in the International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation on the Duterte Administration's alleged crimes against humanity committed during its drug war.

"I will not prevent anything, rule of law will be observed under my watch. There’s nothing to hide, they are just investigating. It doesn't mean you are guilty. Rule of law will be observed, I guarantee you that," Moreno said in an ANC interview.

"Definitely, I will not lift a finger, mag-cover o tumulong o magdiin, diinan (I won't provide cover or help or press the ICC)," Moreno added.

Likewise, Moreno said that his presidency would not harbor grudges against anybody.

"Iyong paghihiganti, far fetched (Taking revenge is fetched). A sitting administration blaming the past administration, magpapakulong na naman (sending officials of past administrations to jail). That is not me," Moreno emphasized.

Moreno, however, stressed that he is against illegal drugs but not at the expense of arbitrarily killing people.

"Galit din tayo sa drugs pero I don’t like extrajudicial killings. Hinuhuli namin ang suspek at dinadala sa husgado, kinikilala din namin ang karapatan ng mga suspek," he said.

(We are against illegal drugs but we do not resort to extrajudicial killings. We make arrests, file charges, bring them to court, recognize their rights)

"That is why a lot of people have been arrested in Manila But a minuscule part...merong mga pagkakataon na namatayan ng suspek, namatayan din ng pulis, this is an occupational hazard (There are rare instances when police and suspects are killed in anti-drug operations, and this is an occupational hazard)," he added.

Moreno announced his planned 2022 presidential bid last September 22, with Dr. Willie Ong as his running mate. — DVM, GMA News
