Bongbong’s possible presidential bid part of plan to revise history –Colmenares

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s possible presidential bid in Eleksyon 2022 is a step closer to their “ultimate power grab for historical revisionism," Bayan Muna Chairperson Neri Colmenares said.

Colmenares made the statement a day after Kilusang Bagong Lipunan— the party founded by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos—nominated Bongbong as its standard-bearer in next year’s elections.

“The KBL nomination of Bongbong Marcos for the presidency is another step in their plan for the ultimate power grab for historical revisionism," said the Bayan Muna chairperson in a statement released Saturday.

"Not only does it add salt into the wounds, but it’s also an outright attempt to absolve and erase all the sins made by the late President Marcos and his family during the Martial Law years as if nothing happened.”

The former congressman maintained that the Marcoses have been trying to seek elective posts and “creep slowly to the executive” as part of their plan to erase the history of abuses under the Martial Law era.

He pointed out that the presidency is not a “time machine” that can delete the past and will change the reputation of the Marcoses.

“Pero paalala lang po, hindi Time Machine ang pagka-pangulo na maaaring burahin ang nakaraan para magmukhang mabango ang pamilyang Marcos. Kung gusto nila mabura ang nakaraan, simulan nila sa pagkilala sa mga panggigipit noong Martial Law,” he said.

(Just a reminder, the presidency is not a time machine that could erase the past and could change the reputation of the Marcos family. If they want to erase the past, they should start by acknowledging the abuses during Martial Law.)

“Only power-hungry families like the Marcoses are desperate for the Palace because they know that history has judged them with justice on its mind. They will do what it takes, even reinforce its ties with the Duterte family to secure the Presidency,” Colmenares added.

Colmenares said Bongbong’s victory is also a win for the family of President Rodrigo Duterte as it is a win for tyranny and dynasty.

"A win for Bongbong will only be a win for the Marcoses and even the Duterte family as it is a win for tyranny and dynasty," he said.

GMA News Online has sought comment from former Senator Marcos and his representatives, but they had yet to respond as of posting time.

In a news forum Friday, Bongbong said he has yet to accept the nomination but thanked the political party for it.

Asked if he will eventually accept the nomination, the former senator said he will "answer you when the time comes."

Bongbong said he is running for a national position in the 2022 elections but has yet to provide specifics.

He said that he is close to coming to a decision "but I am not yet there." — DVM, GMA News
