20,755 new Philippine COVID-19 infections logged; total cases at 2,490,858


The Department of Health reported 20,755 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, bringing the country's total caseload to 2,490,858.

Active cases in the country are now at 161,447, of which 81.1% are mild, 13.4% are asymptomatic, 1.6% are severe, and 0.7% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries increased to 2,292,006 after 24,391 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

For the third consecutive day, no new deaths were reported due to technical issues, the DOH said.

"The Department of Information and Communications Technology is currently addressing issues encountered by the system. When the issue is resolved, the succeeding increase in deaths in the following reports will be due to the previous days' backlogs," the department explained.

The DOH said 72 duplicates were removed from the total case count.

The DOH added that all laboratories were operational on September 24, while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Further, data from the DOH also showed that 75% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 54% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 76% of the ICU beds are in use, while 57% of the ventilators are utilized. — DVM, GMA News
