Trillanes to run for president if Robredo won’t decide by Oct. 8

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said he would run for president should Vice President Leni Robredo fail to make a decision by October 8 — the last day of filing of certificate of candidacy for the May 2022 elections.

Robredo earlier said she would decide on her political plans before October 8 even as she continued to hope and work for unity in the opposition.

“Tuloy ang pagtulak natin kay VP Leni to run for president. Kung tumuloy siya, ipanalo natin siya. Pero kung 'di pa rin siya makapagdesisyon by 12 nn of October 8, tuloy na po ako ng pagka-presidente,” Trillanes said on Facebook on Sunday.

(We continue to push VP Leni to run for president. If she decides to run, let’s make her win. However, if she cannot make a decision by 12 noon of October 8, I will run for president instead.)

“‘Di po natin hahayaang matalo ang TUNAY na OPOSISYON ng ‘di man lang lumaban.”

(We will not allow the real opposition to lose without a fight.)

In her radio program on September 19, Robredo said the opposition must serve the “best interest of the country” in fielding candidates for 2022.

The Vice President also said she is more than prepared if she is chosen to be the opposition’s “unity candidate.”

Robredo has said she doesn’t want a continuation of the Duterte regime and for the Marcoses—possibly through former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.— to return to power. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
