Teacher scammed by online annulment offer

A public school teacher lost thousands of pesos after she was fooled by a woman she met online who claimed she could facilitate an annulment.

According to a report on "24 Oras" on Monday, "Helen," 29, met the suspect, Archie May Ramos, on social media.

"Nakikita ko po sa mga Facebook posts 'yong mga annulment na walang appearance, 'yong ganoon na fast process, no hassle. Marami pong nagpo-post sa Facebook and nag-comment po ako ng 'interested,' 'yon po, nag-start na ng conversation," the victim said.

(I saw these Facebook posts on annulments without any court appearances, that were rapidly processed with no hassles. There were a lot of these posts, and I commented that I was "interested." That's how the conversation started.)

She said the suspect asked for P200,000 for the process. She was able to give a down payment, but then she started to get suspicious.

She reported her case to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Quezon Provincial Unit, which conducted an entrapment operation that resulted in the arrest of Ramos.

"Wala naman siyang legitimate source of income, wala naman siyang trabaho and initial investigation disclosed na may mga other victims siya sa Quezon province karamihan mga teachers din," CIDG Quezon provincial officer Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Huesca said. Ma. Angelica Garcia

(She had no legitimate source of income, she didn't have a job. And the initial investigation found that there were other victims in Quezon province, mostly teachers as well.)
