Duterte wants quarantine for incoming travelers shortened to 7 days

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday night asked the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to shorten the quarantine period for incoming travelers who are vaccinated against COVID-19.

In Duterte's weekly address to the public, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said they are finalizing plans of shortening the quarantine period to five to seven days.

"'Yong iba earlier during this thing COVID came in, they were talking about the incubation period of about seven days lang... I may be wrong, I may have misheard pero kung totoo 'yan eh 7 days na lang para kasi pagpasok niyan, it will manifest sa katawan mo within 7 days... Beyond that, medyo wala na, 'yan ang sabi nila," the president said.

Duterte expressed his sympathy to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who undergo quarantine for too long.

"Naaawa ako sa mga kababayan nating OFW pati 'yong utang natin kasi 'yong mga hotel na ginagamit natin, maganda eh," he said.

The chief executive even jested about getting infected just to be able to experience hotel services.

"Kung gusto mo makatikim ng maganda hotel, magpahawa ka lang. Mamili ka ng hotel na gusto mo," he said.

"Kung bata ka, dalawa kayo ng girlfriend mo magpahawa. Mag-honeymoon kayo doon. Medyo may lagnat lang ng kaunti pero kaunti lang," he added. -- BAP, GMA News
