Banking on his social media following, Raffy Tulfo files COC for senator in Eleksyon 2022

Broadcaster Raffy Tulfo on Saturday filed his certificate of candidacy for senator in Eleksyon 2022.

He filed his COC at around 1:40 p.m., accompanied by his wife, ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Jocelyn Tulfo.

Facing the media after his COC filing, Tulfo said he would run as an independent to keep his loyalty to the Filipino people and not to any politician.

However, he was willing to be a guest candidate of any party that was aligned with his advocacies.

He revealed that groups of other presidential aspirants, particularly Senator Manny Pacquiao and Senator Panfilo Lacson, among others, had reached out to him to join their senatorial slates.

Citing his more than 20 years of public service, Tulfo said he always encountered less fortunate Filipinos who found themselves at a disadvantage when they go up against the rich and powerful.

“Madalas kong napapansin sa kahit anong laban, palagi silang nadedehado at mabilis na nalalamapaso ang kanilang mga karapatan lalo na ‘pag mayayaman at makapangyarihan ang kanilang nababangga kaya madalas na marinig sa kanila na hindi patas ang batas,” Tulfo said.

(I always notice that the less fortunate are always at a disadvantage every time they battle against the rich and the powerful. That is why we can always hear them saying that the law is not fair.)

“Ang mga kapos-palad nating mga kababayan mas kailangan ng proteksyon sa ating batas at ‘yan po ang isang dahilan kung bakit ako nandito sa harap ninyo ngayon,” he added.

(They need more protection from our laws and that is one of the reasons why I am here before you.)

He noted that there were laws that needed to be amended and there were measures that had be expanded to help more Filipinos.

Among the measures he wants to file are labor-related laws and measures for the welfare of overseas Filipino workers.

The media personality was confident that his senatorial bid would be successful, citing his huge social media following.

“Confident ako na ang ‘yung mga subscribers ko ay susuporta sa akin,” he said.

(I am confident that my subscribers will support me.)

Tulfo had topped the recent Pulse Asia survey on preferred senatorial candidates with a 55.2% rating, followed by Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano with 53.6%, Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero with 47.9%, Antique Rep. Loren Legarda with 47.2%, Isko Moreno with 42.3%, and Pacquiao with 42.2%. — DVM, GMA News
