125 more PNP personnel contract COVID 19, bringing total to 40,463

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a total of 40,463 COVID-19 in its organization as 125 more personnel tested positive for the disease as of Wednesday.

In an update, the PNP said 38,561 have already recovered from the disease, while 1,783 are still active cases.

The death toll due to COVID-19 among PNP personnel remained at 119.

On Saturday, the PNP identified the two latest fatalities as a patrolman assigned in the Bicol Region and police chief master sergeant in Mimaropa.

The patrolman died on September 23 due to critical pneumonia caused by COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the PNP said the police chief master sergeant had been undergoing dialysis twice a week as treatment for chronic kidney disease.

During the first week of September, he was advised to go on alternative working arrangement to continue treatment.

He succumbed on September 29 at a local hospital, according to the PNP.

As of Tuesday, over 80% of PNP personnel are already fully vaccinated while over 16% have received their first dose, the police organization said.

Around 6,116 or 2.75% of PNP personnel are still not vaccinated. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
