Philippines reports 9,868 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 9,868 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, bringing the nationwide tally to 2,622,917, as two laboratories failed to submit data on time.

This marks the second straight day where less than 10,000 cases were recorded as the DOH cites technical issues with COVIDKaya.

“The DOH is in constant coordination with the DICT to resolve technical issues with COVIDKaya,” the DOH said.

Meanwhile, this brought the country’s active cases to 112,807.

Of this, 76.7% are mild, 13.9% are asymptomatic, 2.8% are severe, and 1.2% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 2,471,282 with 133 new ones, the lowest new recoveries recorded since March 30, while the death toll remained at 38,828.

Twenty-one duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

Data also showed that the intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients remain at high risk with 71% of the total 4,500 ICU beds in use

High risk means the occupancy rate is more than 70% but less than 85%.

Meanwhile, ICU beds in National Capital Region (NCR) are at moderate risk with 69% of the 1,600 beds being utilized.

At least 61% of the 15,600 ward beds in the Philippines are being utilized while 58% of the 4,300 ward beds in NCR are in use.
