In defending trip to watch store, Duterte talks about girlfriend his wife knew about
By CONSUELO MARQUEZ,GMA NewsPresident Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he met with an ex-girlfriend when visited a fancy mall but added that his wife knew about it.
In his Talk to the People, Duterte made the remark in response to Senator Richard Gordon's criticism of his visit to check out expensive watches after he accompanied Senator Bong Go file a certificate of candidacy for vice president.
Gordon questioned the propriety
of Duterte looking at luxury timepieces in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.Duterte was quick to defend himself, adding that he was meeting with an old flame during his mall visit.
"Pinuna mo yung pagpunta ko sa tindahan. Pagpunta ko sa tindahan kasi may gusto akong makipagkita ko sa isang tao, girlfriend ko noon. Hiwalay na kami. Pumasok kami roon," Duterte said.
"Gusto ko lang mamasyal pumasok kami sa jewelry stores totoo yun. Totoo yun ang tingin ako ng mga relo sino ba ayaw ng relo na magaganda?" he added.

Duterte again mentioned Gordon's reported failure to pay back the P86 million in government funds the Commission on Audit supposedly disallowed when the senator was chairman of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
"Ngayon, problema lang kung may pera ka, kagaya sa iyo na P86 million ilang relo mabili mo? kaya nahalata, napupuna ko ito," Duterte said.
"Everytime magkita tayo the last time you were wearing Rolex parang gold, hindi ako nagnakaw ng relo. Ngayon, pumunta akong tindahan. Kayo ang nagnakaw sa gobyerno ng P86 million," he added.
At one point in his speech, Duterte indicated that his wife knew about his ex-girlfriend whom he met when he was a congressman.
"Huwag na kayong magtanong... may asawa na ako. Di ba? Girlfriend ko yan, congressman ako noon. Kasi pagkatapos sa Congress magtingin tingin, yun nakilala ko. So, ayun may girlfriend talaga ako. Pero alam ng asawa ko," Duterte said. -NB, GMA News
