10,019 new COVID-19 cases bring active tally to over 115K


The Philippines on Thursday logged 10,019 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total active infections to 115,328.

The Department of Health said the new cases brought the country's total COVID-19 case count to 2,632,881.

Of the active cases, 77.1% are mild, 13.6% are asymptomatic, 2.7% are severe, and 1.2% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries, meanwhile, increased to 2,478,616 after 7,425 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll climbed to 38,937 with 109 new fatalities.

The DOH said 55 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 56 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on October 5, while four laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

"The DOH will be reporting additional deaths tomorrow in a separate advisory, to reflect numbers not included in the previous case bulletins due technical issues encountered with COVIDKaya," the department added.

Further, data from the DOH also showed that 72% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 51% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 71% of the ICU beds are in use, while 52% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
