Sherwin Gatchalian files COC for another term in Senate

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for his reelection bid in the 2022 elections.

In a media interview after the filing, Gatchalian, who will run under the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), said he has decided to run for reelection after Davao City Sara Duterte told him that she herself will run for reelection in 2022.

“Pagtapos ng aming pangungusap, tayo po ay nag-desisyon na mag-file for reelection for the Senate at napahiwatig ko na rin sa mga huling interview na tayo lang po ay tatakbo bilang pangalawang pangulo o bise-presidente kung siya (Sara Duterte) po ay tatakbo bilang presidente at tayo ay mapipili,” Gatchalian said, answering media queries.

(After our conversation, I decided to file for reelection in the Senate and we already said before that we will only run for vice president if she will run as president and if she chooses me as her running mate.)

Gatchalian earlier said he would run for the vice presidential post in next year's elections only if Sara, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, picks him as her running-mate.

Sara has already filed her COC for her reelection bid.

If reelected, Gatchalian said he will continue his work in addressing the “education crisis” in the country.

He also vowed to help in addressing the economic crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.  —KBK, GMA News
