Ilocos Norte aspirant seeks 3 posts in Eleksyon 2022

By HANA BORDEY,GMA News

A political aspirant on Friday filed multiple certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2022 elections.

On the last day of filing of COCs, Arlene Josephine "Joy" Mintalon filed two -- one for vice president and one for senator.

In a speech following the filing, Mintalon said she also filed her COC for vice governor in her province of Ilocos Norte.

She also said she filed for vice president and president -- and not senator -- in her speech.

"And we have enough time to decide kung ano talaga ang tatakbuhan [We have enough time to decide which post to run for]," she said.

Mintalon described herself as a mother and a former dragon fruit farmer who once served in the National Youth Commission.

“Bakit ako tumakbo sa tatlong posisyon pa? Because masayado ng personal ang mga patama ng mga nangangandidato at nasa gobyerno being legislative or whatever,” she said.

(Why did I file for three positions? Because the candidates are getting personal already. They may be part of the government, in the legislative or whatever.)

Mintalon also said there is a “need for a true legislator.” She said she will push for pensions for the poor and senior citizens, lasting peace and fair democracy, among others.

She also wanted to legalize drugs to collect taxes but its use would be regulated.

“‘Pag tinanong mo ako sa drugs, legislate a law offering or legalizing drugs para makabayad naman sila sa atin ng tamang buwis at namo-monitor din natin sila pag sila ay bumibili and we tell them what’s the effects of this talaga para matahimik na ang mundo,” she said.

(If you’ll ask me about drugs, let’s legislate a law legalizing drugs so that we can collect revenues from them and monitor their purchases, then we tell them the effects of this so that we can achieve a peaceful world.)

Mintalon also urged the public not to vote for thieves.  —KBK, GMA News
