AMID PERSISTENT PRODDING

Sara Duterte insists she's seeking reelection as Davao City mayor

Amid persistent calls from her supporters to seek the presidency, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte maintained Friday that she is seeking reelection in the May 2022 elections.

On the final day of filing of certificate of candidacy, Sara's supporters trooped to the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City to urge the mayor to seek the presidency.

In her latest statement, Sara, however, insisted that she will run for mayor of the city for a third term.

"I am presenting myself to the Dabawenyos as mayor for the third and last time in my life as a politician. I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly, and credible elections in May 2022," Sara said in a Facebook post.

The mayor again thanked her supporters noting that many of them do not know her yet they carry her over their shoulders.

"I have been honored with the gift of trust and respect of many of our fellow Filipinos. A gift that is one in a million. Thank you to everyone who have expressed their support," Sara said.

Sara filed her certificate of candidacy for her reelection as Davao City mayor last Saturday.

On the same day, President Rodrigo Duterte said that her daughter Sara will run for president and Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, who filed his COC for vice president, will be her running mate.—AOL/RSJ, GMA News
