Robredo names initial 5 bets for senator in Eleksyon 2022

Presidential aspirant Leni Robredo on Friday revealed an initial list of five individuals who will make up her senatorial slate in the May 2022 elections.

They include reelectionist Senators Risa Hontiveros and Leila De Lima, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, former Ifugao lawmaker Teddy Baguilat, and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno.

The vice president said Baguilat would take the place of Senator Francis Pangilinan, who decided to become her running mate instead.

Former Senator Bam Aquino, meanwhile, shelved his plan to seek a Senate seat to serve as Robredo’s campaign manager.

“There are others who confirmed, but we are not in authority yet to say their names. They come from different backgrounds. It [slate] will be out by next week,” Robredo said at a press conference.

Robredo said she asked Aquino to help her out given the tough fight ahead. 

“I really asked him for help because I cannot do this without him by my side. I cannot pull this off if I will not do this with him because I was also with him full time during the 2016 campaign,” she said.?

Aquino served as Robredo’s campaign manager during the 2016 vice presidential race, which she won by a margin of only 263,473 votes. 

Robredo registered with the Commission on Elections as an independent candidate for president on Thursday.  — VBL, GMA News
