Comelec chief blows top, says staff defied his instructions of holding virtual media briefing

Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Sheriff Abas expressed rage Friday over Comelec employees  who supposedly failed to follow his instruction to hold a virtual press conference instead of an in-person briefing during the last day of filing of candidacy for the 2022 elections.

Abas' statements were caught on Comelec's livestreaming feed during the same day.

"Kung hindi virtual, hindi magpe-presscon. Tayong dalawa, James. Virtual tayong lahat (If it is not virtual, there is no press conference)," Abas said.

Comelec spokesperson and Director James Jimenez, who heads the poll body's Education and Information Department (EID), responded by saying, "Yes, Sir."

Abas, however, was not done yet.

"Naiinis ako sa inyo, EID. Sabi ko virtual, bakit mas nakikinig pa kayo sa iba? G*g* kayo ah. Bakit hindi ninyo sinusunod ang instruction na virtual (You are pissing me off, EID. Why are you listening to others? Dumbasses. Why are you not following instructions)?" he said.

"Takot kayo kay Guanzon pero di kayo takot sa akin? (You are scared of Guanzon but you are not scared of me?) Abas added.

One of the poll commissioners is Rowena Guanzon.
