Maring leaves 11 dead, 7 missing —NDRRMC


Eleven persons were reported dead, while seven were missing during the onslaught of severe tropical storm Maring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Tuesday afternoon.

In its 5:30 p.m. update, the NDRRMC also monitored three persons injured as Maring accelerated while moving westward over the West Philippine Sea.

The agency said it is still validating these reports on fatalities and missing persons.

A total of 19,147 persons were affected by the tropical storm. At least 3,221 stranded residents are taking shelter inside the evacuation areas.

At least 45 flooding and 14 landslide incidents were also reported in Region 1, Region 2, MIMAROPA, Region 6, CARAGA, and CAR.

Meanwhile, 44 roads and 10 bridges were not passable in the affected areas of Region 1, Region 2, MIMAROPA, and CAR.

The NDRRMC also recorded that at least 48 cities and municipalities experienced power interruption during the onslaught of Maring.

The weather bureau PAGASA said the severe tropical storm exited the Philippine area of responsibility at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

PAGASA said the storm will continue moving westward and is likely to make landfall in Hainan, China on Wednesday evening.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA News
