Floods, landslides hit Luzon areas during Maring —reports

Several landslide and flooding incidents were reported in many areas in Luzon amid the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Maring, according to Unang Balita reports on Wednesday.

Interviewed on Unang Balita, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson Mark Timbal said 11 were reported dead, three injured, and seven missing due to Maring.

“Ito pong mga nasawi ay mga biktima po ng naganap na landslide, flash flood, at pagkalunod in various locations in the Cordilleras, Cagayan, and Palawan,” he said, citing NDRRMC report as of Tuesday night.

(These fatalities were victims of landslides, flash floods, and drowning, in various locations in the Cordilerras, Cagayan, and Palawan.)

Rescue operations are still ongoing, according to Timbal.

In Bagac, Bataan, 28 houses were destroyed by big and strong waves that left 37 families homeless. A dike was also damaged, and the livelihood of fishermen was also affected.

Three children drowned in Las Pinas on Monday, according to Mai Bermudez's report. They were swimming in a creek when the water level became swollen due to flood.

 

In Sta. Teresita, Cagayan, 10 residents were rescued after being trapped in their houses in the middle of a flood, according to Darlene Cay's report.

Meanwhile, in the town of Baggao, some farmers were able to save only 20 cavans of their crops as the floods hit their fields.

In Quirino, Ilocos Sur, a river swelled and reached nearby establishments.

The Abra and Sinalang River overflowed, causing a chest-deep flood in Bangued, Abra. Some farm animals reportedly drowned.

Meanwhile in the town of Quezon in Palawan, a spillway was destroyed by the flood.

According to JP Soriano's report, some areas in la Union also experienced flooding.

In Baguio City, two children are still missing following a landslide incident. The body of their uncle, Alfredo Ocampo, was already retrieved, according to a report by Ian Cruz.

 

At least 29 landslide incidents were reported in the city, according to the city disaster risk reduction and management office.

Three more children died in another landslide incident in La Trinidad, Benguet, and two adults in separate incidents in Itogonon, Benguet.

In Baseco Compound in Manila, over 200 families were evacuated amid the chest-deep flood.
