Maring’s reported death toll climbs to 13 —NDRRMC


At least 13 people were reported dead while nine were missing due to the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Maring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

In an 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC added that a total of 21,511 people or 6,111 families were affected by Maring in 237 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Cordillera.

At least 5,852 individuals or 1,513 families were staying in 99 evacuation centers, while 5,673 people or 1,324 families were taking shelter in the houses of their relatives and friends.

A total of 53 flooding incidents were reported, of which 40 have already subsided in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Caraga, and Cordillera.

There were also 14 landslide incidents reported.

At least 42 roads and four bridges are not passable in Ilocos, Cagayan, Mimaropa, and Cordillera. Some 66 roads and 17 bridges that were previously affected are now passable.

Power interruption was experienced in 102  cities and municipalities, of which, 58 were already restored.

Water supply problems were experienced in one area due to Maring, according to the NDRRMC.

At least six seaports suspended operations, of which, two already resumed. Some 1,146 passengers, 537 rolling cargoes, and two vessels were stranded in Calabarzon, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

A total of 109 houses were damaged— 54 partially and 55 totally— in Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Caraga, and Cordillera.

According to the NDRRMC, a total of P493,766,744 worth of damage in agriculture was reported in Ilocos, Cagayan, Cordillera.

An infrastructure was also damaged in Western Visayas.

At least 154 classes and 179 work schedules were suspended in Ilocos, Cagayan, Mimaropa, and Cordillera.

According to the NDRRMC, 1,968 people or 1,216 families were preemptively evacuated in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and Cordillera.

On Wednesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Maring continues to move away from the country as southwest monsoon will be affecting Luzon and the western section of Visayas.—AOL, GMA News
