Philippines receives over 1M Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses

The Philippines welcomed the arrival of more than one million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Friday night.

According to the National Task Force Against COVID-19, a total of 1,068,210 doses landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on October 15, 2021.

NTF against COVID-19 special adviser Dr. Teodoro Herbosa, US Embassy Cultural Affairs officer Nina Lewis, Health Director Ma. Soledad Antonio, and NTF medical consultant Dr. Ma. Paz Corrales welcomed the vaccine doses.

The Pfizer vaccine doses were procured by the government.

The vaccine doses will be distributed in Manila and Davao.

The Philippines has so far received 90,619,530 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. Of this number, 55,365,550 were procured by the government; 24,330,280 were from the COVAX facility; 7,284,560 were procured by the private sector and local government units; and 3,639,140 were donated by other countries.

Among the donations received were 844,800 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine given by the German government which arrived on Friday afternoon. 

About 720,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines meanwhile are expected to arrive on Saturday afternoon. —KG, GMA News
