President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday urged Filipinos to vote for "new faces" in their senatorial lineup in Eleksyon 2022.

In his taped weekly Talk to the People, Duterte made the statement after he again aired his frustration on senators inviting Health Francisco Duque III and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. in the inquiry of "overpriced" COVID-19 supply procurement.

"Mga kababayan ko, dito tayo sa kampon ng tama, huwag kayo sa kampon ng mali. Sabihin ko sa inyo, mamili kayo ng bagong mga opisyal, senador, bagong basta yung bago," Duterte said.

"Hindi naman kailangan wala talaga, hindi sa gobyerno. They might be government officials. Past or present. But try to scout new faces," he added.

At one point, he also suggested to the public to not vote for Senator Richard Gordon, who is seeking reelection in 2022. He is currently included in the senatorial line-up of Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo.

"'Wag na pabalik balik. 'wag na kay Gordon. Ano nakuha ninyo kay Gordon? the PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Fund) pati mukha nila inilagay sa ambulansya," said Duterte.

Duque and other health officials skipped the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing, led by panel chair Gordon, citing Duterte's memorandum order requiring Cabinet members to seek clearance before attending the upper chamber's probe. —LDF/GMA News
