Over 5K minors with comorbidities vaccinated vs. COVID-19 —Galvez

A total of 5,781 adolescents aged 15 to 17 years old with comorbidities  have been vaccinated against COVID-19, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said Friday.

In a message, Galvez said the 5,781 adolescents were vaccinated by the eight hospitals initially tapped for the pediatric vaccination in the country.

“Masaya kami dahil sa datos ng Department of Health (DOH), as of October 21... they have already vaccinated 5,781 ang mga kabataang may edad 15 hanggang 17 ang ating nabakunahan [We are happy because data from the DOH showed that they have vaccinated 5,781 adolescents aged 15 to 17 years old],” Galvez said.

He also welcomed the additional 13 hospitals that will hold pediatric vaccination.

(We want to stress the importance of pediatric vaccination. This will give way for children to return to school and hasten the opening of the economy.)

Meanwhile, the DOH said the ceremonial program for the vaccination of 12 to 17 years old will be held at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Hospital ng Parañaque, and the Quezon City General Hospital.

According to San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, 140 minors with comorbidities will be vaccinated on Friday in Cardinal Santos Medical Center.

Zamora said around 500 will be vaccinated in the next 5 days.

The DOH estimates there are around 1.2 million children with comorbidities aged 12 to 17 years old nationwide.

The agency previously said children seeking vaccination must get a clearance from their doctors as well as give their consent and assent.

Meanwhile, medical conditions such as medical complexity, genetic condition, neurologic conditions, metabolic or endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV Infection, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory disease, renal disorders, and hepatobiliary disease, and those who are immunocompromised due to disease or treatment are eligible for vaccination. —KBK, GMA News
